Adukroman Foundation in collaboration with Adukroman Council hosted the very first Odwira cooking contest for high school students on November 30, 2022. By all accounts especially judging from the talent displayed by the youth, it was a success.
Adukroman Foundation saw a great need to engage the young people of Adukrom, who though part of the community, are often left out of the weeklong festivities. The event was of particular interest to the foundation in that it seeks to put a spotlight on the inherent, but often latent potential that often lies untapped and unchallenged in our youth.
A core goal of Adukroman Foundation is to uncover the hidden talents of young people from Adukrom who can tap into the abundance of natural resources around them to produce incredible things for the community. This was accomplished to some extent on a smaller scale by the students.
The students of Adutech, J.G. Knol and Nifa Secondary were each given a small amount of money to buy locally grown ingredients to cook nutritious local dishes. This was done to stress the importance of consuming what Ghanaians already grow, in light of Ghana’s steady and heavy preference for processed, imported foods. “Grow and eat locally sourced foods” was the idea and the students delivered on this challenge, cooking up tasty meals through exceptional collaboration with their teams.
Many of the audience were not all judges up close, but the founders of the foundation, most based in the United States, watched the joy and enthusiasm of the different schools as they cheered on their fellow mates to success. This successful event is not just a lesson from our youth, but a reminder to the adults in the festivities that we as a people can do anything with our little resources, if we set our mind to do great things together as a team.
One thing that inspired Adukroman Foundation above all, was seeing the joy the contest brought to our youth. Odwira is a time to be happy and the youth showed it. Congratulations to all the schools, judges, leaders of Adukrom and everyone who participated to make the occasion a success.
