Charity starts with a desire to lift up those who are less fortunate than we are in life.
A first trip ever to grandmother and mother’s hometown Adukrom sparked a passion to envision charity differently. Seeing a little boy by the roadside begging for money when he should be in school. Why was he already a beggar at that very young age?
Digging into my sister’s purse I handed him the largest denomination in cedis but that wasn’t teaching him how to fish or care for himself. It was making him dependent on the charity of others when he should be learning a skill or honing a craft into a sustainable livelihood.
Too often this is how charitable organisations have operated in Africa. Give and keep giving with not much to show for in the end or transforming lives in a truly meaningful way.
Adukroman Foundation’s goal is to establish a different model. Employ an educational or a training model that pays the people, particularly the youth of Adukrom to harness what they already have within themselves and in nature.
Ghana has an abundance of resources including the rain, sun and the earth itself. The people need the knowledge, which is often lacking, to take what nature gives and turn these into resources that benefit them whiles also giving back to nature and humanity in ways that are not wasteful.
This is our passion for Adukroman as a non-profit. That you give once and see the impact it has in the lives of the people, mostly the children of Adukrom. Best of all, your charity will help lift others up. Thanks for your generosity!
